A Wonderful Day at the Cheltenham Cricket Festival

It was a real pleasure to be invited to the Cheltenham Cricket Festival as guests of Stephen Chalke and Fred Rumsey, founder of the Professional Cricketers’ Association.

Despite the changeable weather, there was tremendous interest in the cricket up to a downpour mid-afternoon and a warm reception for What Cricket Means To Me. It was particularly special to see contributors Roland Butcher and Roger Knight, both of whom attracted plenty of interest from many of the cricket lovers at the game.

One of the highlights of the day was the opportunity to hear and share so many wonderful cricket stories. From lifelong supporters to former players, everyone seemed to have a tale to tell, demonstrating once again the unique way cricket connects people and generations – one of the key features of the book.

The festival also provided the chance to enjoy a series of fascinating interviews with some of the game’s most respected figures, including Mark Alleyne, Mike Brearley and Zaheer Abbas. Their insights, experiences and reflections on the game added another memorable dimension to an already outstanding occasion.

A huge thank you to Stephen Chalke and Fred Rumsey for their hospitality and for creating such a welcoming environment. Cheltenham Cricket Festival remains one of the great occasions in the cricketing calendar, and it was a privilege to spend another fabulous day among friends old and new, celebrating the game we all love.
